from the intersection of Highways 70 and 54 at the south end of Alamogordo, go on Highway 54 south about 1/2 mile to Desert Lakes Road.
Turn left onto Desert Lakes Road (which sneaks under the railroad tracks) and go east to Hamilton road. Turn right onto Hamilton (south) and go for 2.1 miles to San Pedro Road.
Go left toward the mountains (east) for 0.5 miles (just past the arroyo) and you'll see the Tavares Inn on your right.
